\nLast challenge from the Yahoo group Cr\u00e9ationFimo : create a book !<\/span>
\n What a good idea, cause books are my job. Not for long, admittedly, but they will always remain one of my greatest passion.<\/span>
\n For this one, inspiration comes from a beautiful marbled paper I had in my collection. I have imagined the book for it, a marine themed book because its pattern makes me think of seaweed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then came the face to face fish for which I drew a decorated frame with some kind of bubbles. A long work requiring care and precision to avoid erasing or damaging the leather texture, to point up the various pieces and obtain a clean and smooth drawing. \nLe Conte du Poisson d’Azur \u00e9tait n\u00e9, une \u0153uvre imaginaire pour un presque-livre.
\nIl n’y avait plus qu’\u00e0 r\u00e9aliser le tout en polym\u00e8re ! Simple, bien s\u00fbr, comme d’hab…
\nApr\u00e8s avoir d\u00e9fini le format de mon livre et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 la base en carton, j’ai h\u00e9sit\u00e9 un bon moment sur la technique que j’allais utiliser pour habiller mes poissons. Finalement j’ai choisi une canne r\u00e9tro avec de tout petits motifs car ce style \u00e9voque celui de Gustav Klimt et ses semis d’ornements pr\u00e9cieux. \u00c7a collait parfaitement bien avec le style Art Nouveau que j’avais choisi pour ma reliure.
\nUne fois les poissons fabriqu\u00e9s, cuits, habill\u00e9s, recuits, ponc\u00e9s, j’ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 construire ma reliure.
\n\u00c9tant donn\u00e9 la quantit\u00e9 de p\u00e2te n\u00e9cessaire pour recouvrir toute la surface j’ai utilis\u00e9 tous mes restes de p\u00e2te de couleur bleu que j’ai m\u00e9lang\u00e9 et dont j’ai ajust\u00e9 la couleur avec de l’encre (Pinata) et des poudres (PearlEx)<\/p>\n
\nThe Tale of the Azure Fish was born, an imaginary work for aa almost-book.
\nI just had to make it all with polymer clay ! Easy, of course, as usual…
\nOnce my book size defined and the cardboard framework made, I hesitated for a while about the technique I’was going to use to adorn my fish.
\nIn the end, I chosed a retro cane with very smal patterns as this style brings to mind Gustav Klimt and his precious scattered ornaments. It matched perfectly with the Art Nouveau style I adopted for my book.
\nAfter having made and baked the basis for the fish, covered them with the retro cane, baked again and sanded, I started elaborating my book cover.
\nGiven the necessary amount of clay to cover the surface, I used all the blue left overs I had that I mixed. I adjusted the colour with inks (Pinata) and powders (PearlEx) to obtain a beautiful turquoise.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nJ’ai ensuite d\u00e9coup\u00e9 les emplacements pour mes “bulles” que j’ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9es, cuites et ponc\u00e9es avant de les ins\u00e9rer dans la “peau” pas encore cuite. Je passe sur les d\u00e9tails pour peaufiner les bords, ins\u00e9rer des fermoirs en m\u00e9tal (r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9s sur un vieux carnet), r\u00e9aliser les d\u00e9cors du dos, g\u00e9rer le “craquage” de la p\u00e2te dans la goutti\u00e8re du plat arri\u00e8re (le joint du dos et du plat, la charni\u00e8re ext\u00e9rieure du livre en quelque sorte) pour lequel j’ai du \u00f4ter la p\u00e2te et remplacer par du papier pour rendre le mouvement souple.
\nApr\u00e8s cuisson, j’ai patin\u00e9 mon “cuir” \u00e0 l’acrylique pour lui donner plus de relief et de r\u00e9alisme et j’ai vieilli les points de frottements habituels (bords, dos etc.) \u00e0 l’aide de m\u00e9langes de pastels tamponn\u00e9s.
\nPour finir j’ai “rempli” mon livre avec les pages d’un carnet afin de pouvoir m’en servir plus tard pour mes notes. J’ai habill\u00e9 les pages de garde de divers papiers et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une page de titre que j’ai color\u00e9 aux feutres \u00e0 l’eau (Promarker) sur un joli papier Verg\u00e9.<\/p>\n
\nThen, I cut out the spaces for my “bubbles” which have been formed, baked , sanded and I inserted them on the unbaked “leather”. I skip the details about how I refined the edges, inserted the metal clasps (I got them from an old notebook), decorated the spine, manage the clay cracking on the back side folding line (I replaced the clay by a paper band)
\nAfter baking the whole cover, I gave some patina to the leather with acrylic paint to bring it more realism and relief. I aged the usual rubbing areas (edges, spine etc.) with dabbed pastel powder.
\nAt last, I filled my “book” with a notebook pages in order to use it for notes later. I ornated the endpapers (first and last pages of the book) with several papers and I created a title page that I colored with my Promarkers on a beautiful Verg\u00e9 paper.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n
